Understanding Ketamine

  • The FDA approved  Ketamine as an anesthetic in 1970 and it was used to treat injured soldiers during the Vietnam War.
  • In 2019, the FDA approved esketamine (Spravato), a nasal spray that is derived from ketamine, for major depressive disorder in adults.
  • Ketamine is  typically given by IV Infusion, and tends to be more effective that Spravato.
  • Vital Ketamine offers both IV Ketamine Infusions and Spravato (Esketamine) treatment.  Founded in 2020, we are one of the most experienced clinics in California.

IV Ketamine Infusions

  • Ketamine is an FDA-approved drug for anesthesia.
  • Ketamine is used off-label at a sub-anesthetic dose for its dissociative effects.
  • Ketamine has been found to be effective for depression, anxiety, PTSD,  addiction, and other mood disorders.
  • Ketamine is also used for severe and treatment-resistant pain such as Causalgia, Neuropathies, Migraines, Post-herpetic Neuralgia, and Cancer.
  • Ketamine works by increasing glutamate and activating pathways that restore  neural connections (neuroplasticity).
  • Ketamine is typically given by IV Infusion or Intramuscular injections.
  • Ketamine infusions are not covered by insurance plans, check  our Pricing.

Spravato (Esketamine)

  • In 2019, Esketamine was approved by the FDA forTreatment-resistant Depression, and Major Depressive Disorder with acute suicidal ideation or behavior.
  • Vital Ketamine Clinic is a Spravato-approved center.
  • Spravato (Esketamine) works like Ketamine by targeting the brain's NMDA receptors to increase glutamate and create new neural pathways, providing fast-acting relief for depression.
  • Ketamine is delivered by a nasal spray, with supervision at our office.
  • Spravato (Esketamine) nasal spray treatment is covered by Insurance.  Our Pre-authorization Team will contact your insurance for approval.  Typically, for insurance to provide coverage, there must be evidence for treatment failures which means no response to at least two anti-depressants.

Spravato Pricing

IV Ketamine vs Spravato (Esketamine)

  • The most effective delivery forms are IV infusions and injections with a similar bioavailability of 93−95% (the degree and rate the medication is absorbed by the body).
  • Other forms, such as troches or nasal sprays, have variable absorption rates that are difficult to estimate with a range of 15–35%.
  • Most medical research looks at ketamine given by IV infusion.
  • IV Ketamine Infusion are Cash only
  • Spravato (Esketamine) may be covered by your insurance plan.  We are members of most Insurance plans such as Medicare, some Medi-Cal programs, commercial PPO plans, and TriCare.

Ketamine therapy

Rapid relief for Depression

Ketamine has emerged as a breakthrough in the treatment of depression. Unlike traditional antidepressants, which can take weeks to show any effect, ketamine often produces rapid relief from depressive symptoms, sometimes within hours. This rapid action can be life-changing for individuals with severe or treatment-resistant depression.

Fast-Acting Anxiety Relief

Similar to its effect on depression, ketamine can provide quick relief from symptoms of anxiety, making it a valuable option for those struggling with acute anxiety or panic attacks. Ketamine's potential to alleviate anxiety offers another avenue of hope for individuals seeking effective treatment for various anxiety disorders, including generalized anxiety.

PTSD Relief

Ketamine's unique action on the brain's glutamate receptors shows promise in reducing PTSD symptoms like intrusive thoughts and anxiety. It may help people reprocess traumatic memories.

Chronic Pain Management

Ketamine has shown potential in managing various chronic pain conditions, such as neuropathic pain from diabetes, chemotherapy, or injuries; Causalgia or complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS); Migraines; Postherpetic Neuralgia; fibromyalgia: and any condition requiring a high MME.  Ketamine is believe to primarily work by blocking NMDA receptors in the brain and spinal cord, which are involved in the maintenance and amplification of chronic pain signals (central desensitization).  The goal is to reset the body's pain pathways.  In addition, Ketamine has anti-inflamatory effects by modifying the inflamatory cytokines, along with  its antidepressant and antianxiety effects.  Anti-inflamatories are known to provide analgesic effects. and Chronic Pain is not uncommonly associated with depression and anxiety.  The overall result is that Ketamine may help in reducing the opioid tolerance.

Treating Other Conditions

Ketamine has also been shown to be helpful in the treatment of Addiction, ADHD, OCD, and Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome.
